The cradle of wine and food culture in Friuli Venezia Giulia
Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia has been working for more than 20 years to attract tourists with initiatives aimed at promoting the best wines and food produced in the region. It is a nonprofit association with more than 100 partner wineries and not only does it represent a pivotal reference point in the wine sector, but it also boosts economic growth. Our association organizes and promotes wine related events and other activities aimed at spreading wine culture and support wine tourism in Friuli Venezia Giulia:
Cantine Aperte – Open cellars
It is the most popular spring event for wine and food tourism in the region. It takes place the last weekend of May in wineries and restaurants, organising many events such as tastings, art exhibitions, concerts and many more.
Calici di Stelle – Starry glasses
To celebrate the night of the shooting stars, we organize open air tastings with music and many events: a fantastic opportunity to discover the region.
Cantine aperte a San Martino – Saint Martin in the cellar
Tourists are invited to enjoy the stunning view of the vineyards in Autumn and taste the excellent wines produced in Friuli Venezia Giulia, paired with the best specialities that our region can offer.
Cantine aperte a Natale – Christmas in the cellar
Wine lovers can visit wineries and start buying Christmas presents with special discounts and beautiful gift wraps.
Spirito di Vino - Wine and Wit
It is an international competition of satirical cartoons concerning the world of wine. The best cartoonists, coming from all around the world, are invited for the awarding ceremony organised every year in Udine during the wine and food festival Friuli DOC in September. Spirito di Vino is also a series of tasting classes, held by winemakers and other experts of the field, about all the aspects concerning wine, from tasting to production.
In order to promote wine tourism in the region, Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia played the role of driving force behind the foundation, between 2011 and 2012, of the Wine and Food Routes network and is today the coordinating centre of the three Routes.
The asset of this network is the clear cut separation of tasks among the different players involved. Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia organises big events and is in charge of the coordinating centre; the Wine and Food Routes promote wine tourism activities (winery tours and tastings and workshops throughout the whole year without any need to make a reservation); the Tourism Consortia focus on accommodation and support other players (represented by the association Slowways) to provide tourists with other services, in compliance with the tourism marketing strategy promoted by the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.
