Native wines and excellent food
Vineyards extending as far as the eye could see, fields with thousands of scents and colours, wide deep-green woods and meadows and fresh gurgling torrents. A landscape that will make you fall in love with this area, surrounded by the hills in the North, by the Natisone river valleys and Slovenia in the east and by the plain in the south-west.
This area, gifted by nature with a strong potential for vine growing, is particularly famous for some very well-known native wines like Schioppettino di Prepotto, Refosco di Faedis, Docg-appellation Ramandolo from Nimis, Docg-appellation Picolit, Ribolla Gialla and, last but not least, Tocai, a prestigious grape variety grown in the whole region and now called Friulano.
The food of this area will reveal the influence of the close-by Slovenia : along this Route you will discover specialities resulting from the blending of the cultures of the two sides of the border and a strong connection with traditional flavours.
Gubana and Struchi are the most traditional sweets produced in the area of Cividale del Friuli, the historical, artistic and cultural heart of the area, former capital of the Lombard Kingdom and, since 2011, one of the listed Unesco World Heritage Sites.
